Enriched Care Does STEPtember | Raising Funds for Cerebral Palsy Alliance

Enriched Care is proud to be participating in STEPtember, 2023. Throughout the month of September, our staff and participants have been moving in their own way to raise funds for Cerebral Palsy Alliance. Whether it be walking 10,000 steps a day, wheeling all over Launceston, dancing or playing team sport, there’s been opportunities for everyone to get involved. Enriched Care will match the amount raised at the end of the month.

Cerebral Palsy is a neurological condition that affects thousands of Australians, making simple tasks that most of us take for granted a daily challenge. However, every September, a remarkable event called "STEPtember Australia" shines a spotlight on this condition, bringing together people from all walks of life to take steps, create awareness, and raise funds to support those living with cerebral palsy.

In this blog post, we will delve into the significance of STEPtember Australia, explore the impact of cerebral palsy, and learn how this annual event is making a difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by the condition.

Understanding Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of lifelong motor disabilities that primarily affect muscle control, coordination, and movement. It results from damage to the developing brain either during pregnancy, childbirth, or shortly after. CP can vary in severity, with some individuals experiencing mild symptoms while others face significant challenges in mobility and daily living.

The Impact of Cerebral Palsy

Living with cerebral palsy can be incredibly challenging. Individuals with CP often face physical limitations, difficulties with communication, and may require extensive medical and therapeutic interventions throughout their lives. Caring for a loved one with CP can also be emotionally and financially draining for families. It's essential to recognize the resilience and strength of those living with CP and the importance of supporting them in their journey.

Here's why Steptember Australia is making a significant impact:

  • Raising Funds: Steptember participants raise vital funds for organizations like the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. These funds support research into CP, improved treatments and therapies, and better accessibility and inclusion for people living with CP.

  • Creating Awareness: By taking on the challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day, participants raise awareness about cerebral palsy, breaking down stigmas and misconceptions surrounding the condition. This increased awareness helps build a more inclusive and understanding society.

  • Building a Supportive Community: Steptember fosters a sense of belonging and community. Participants often share their stories, connect with others who have been touched by CP, and provide emotional support for one another.

  • Promoting Physical Activity: Encouraging physical activity is not only beneficial for the participants but also for individuals with cerebral palsy. Regular movement can help improve motor skills and overall well-being.

  • Inspiring Change: Steptember motivates people to push their boundaries and take on challenges they may not have considered before. This determination and dedication often extend beyond September, leading to ongoing support and advocacy for individuals with CP.
