Accessing NDIS Disability Support Services - Where do I Even Start?

Have you or has someone you know recently become eligible to receive National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services here in Launceston, Tasmania? Amazing! This is a major milestone along the road to receiving the support needed to live the life you or your loved one truly wants.

“The NDIS provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and an improved quality of life. The NDIS also connects anyone with disability to services in their community.” (What is the NDIS? | ndis.gov.au)

Ok, so I’ve got funding… but now what? I want to access disability support services, but where do I even start?? We hear your questions! Thankfully this blog post will act as a quick overview of how to access disability support services, right here in Launceston, Tasmania.

Start by working with your NDIS planner to create a personalised plan outlining the support services you require. This plan takes into account your disability, your goals, and your current support network. You’ll talk about everything from what hobbies you enjoy (lawn bowls, gaming, nature walks, whatever you like!), how many disability support workers are able to support you, what your home could look like, how you’ll get around (transport) and much more. And don't worry, you'll have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on your plan before it's finalised.

Now comes the fun part - choosing the service providers you want to work with! You can select from a range of registered NDIS service providers in your area, including disability support workers, therapists, and other professionals. And if you prefer, you can also choose to self-manage your plan or use a plan management provider.

Once you've selected your service providers, you're all set to start accessing the support services outlined in your plan. You can receive a range of services, including assistance with daily activities, therapy, equipment and home modifications, and community participation.
